Over the weekend we started demoing (& somewhat rebuilding) parts of the kitchen! The wall that the new picture window is on is now partially torn apart & the second window in the kitchen has been closed in!
Here is a before picture of the window we closed in.
I know some of you are thinking "Oh my goodness, who does that?! Who closes in a perfectly good window?" (both of our mothers). Believe me, it wasn't the easiest thing to decide on, but it was the only way we felt like we could have our dream kitchen. Which, in my opinion, is totally worth losing the very scenic view of our shed & neighbors house from that window...
This was the first time we (aka Taylor) had done a project like this but it actually went very smoothly & we felt like professionals! We originally had the plan to have a general contractor come in & do this for us but they were going to charge $700 JUST FOR LABOR. This cost us about $60 to do on our own...totally worth spending a Saturday doing it!
Now for any doubters out there, Taylor studied up & followed all of the professional rules. We have a waterproof barrier up before the siding so that the wood won't rot, plus all the other things I don't know about like support & such... (he's the engineer not me!)
Here is the state our kitchen is currently in minus all of the mess. We aren't finishing the wall from the inside until we have taken out all of the cabinets because we are going to insulate & drywall all the walls at once. P.S we have zero insulation & the walls are plaster so they are going to completely fall apart when we take out the cabinets anyway. So for now, we are going to be in an "in progress" state for awhile!
Up next on the project list:
1. lighting (my lighting choice & some of my other favs coming on this week's #favoritethingsfriday
2. opening up wall between kitchen & dining room
3. pantry
Can't wait to keep sharing this adventure with you! Believe me, by the end, you won't even miss that window!
